The Ringling Bros. Circus uses a variety of animals in their shows. While many animal rights activists oppose the use of animals for entertainment no matter what, Ringling and circuses in general are particularly disturbing because of their long history of abuse. Recently in 2011, Ringling settled with a fine of $270,000 for violations of the Animal Welfare Act, the largest violation to date.Those violations include animals being trapped in train cars with their own feces, elephants being whipped with bullhooks, and animals being chained in one place for the majority of their lives. Intense training methods are used to get these animals, which are usually wild, to perform tricks.
I recognize those eyes as the same eyes a human would have if they were put in prison for committing no crime. Shame on the Indy Zoo for this. I hope the little girl in the picture grows up to know better.
