Ringling to End Elephant Acts!
Ringling Brothers announced today they will end their elephant acts. This a MAJOR VICTORY for a nationwide effort and really shows the power we have when we come together. There is no doubt that the final nail in this coffin was driven home on December 4th right here in Indianapolis when over 200 of you showed up to protest with us.
To address some concerns we have heard. We certainly have a lot of work to do. They did not commit to ending other animal performances. We are already planning to print more lion and tiger signs and will be protesting them in Indy as long as they have animal acts.
They said they will be moving the elephants to Ringling’s Center of Elephant Conservation in Florida, which is basically a torture camp for elephants where things like this happen:
They could certainly continue to train, breed, harvest elephant sperm and sell elephants to other circuses. We are urging them to retire the elephants to a sanctuary like The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
That is work for a later day. Today, let’s celebrate this achievement, which is a huge milestone in the animal rights movement.
