A new deceptive marketing display at the Indianapolis airport invites people to visit Fair Oaks Farm in Northern Indiana and see their piglets grow. While you are on your visit, they will let you sample some pork and bacon. It is mind boggling how people can appreciate the cuteness and beauty of an animal one minute and then devour their sliced up bodies the next.
Upon first glance the depiction above looks like a pool of blood. That bloody splotch is quite fitting when you consider the things that they do to their piglets at Fair Oaks, including:
- Their teeth are cut out.
- Their tails are cut off.
- Parts of their tender ears are cut off.
- At only 21 days old, the piglets are shipped to a “finishing farm” where they will live for about 6 months before being slaughtered in a brutal fashion for meat.
I’m not sure anything on earth is cuter than a new piglet. It is a natural reaction to smile and feel good inside when you see them. That is why Fair Oaks shows them to you on the tour and uses them as marketing tools. Would people react the same if they watched these same piglets being slaughtered only 120 days later?
